Surf TripStormy North Sea, Smooth Sailing with the BMW iX40

Although I had done this road trip before, I was more excited than ever. The conditions looked promising, and I was told the water was still warm from the summer—this being the first real storm of the season.

Of course, with those positives came the usual challenges. The waves in the North Sea don’t hold for long, and the window for perfect surf is always short. My friends have always told me that strike missions like this are impossible with an EV—but I’ve proven them wrong before, and did so again this time.

The journey began midday in Munich with an overnight stop in Hamburg. We hit the road early the next morning, arriving by midday at the northern tip of Denmark: Klitmøller.

Although it was stormy when we arrived, the vibe felt very different this time. No icy wind slicing through your clothes, no frost to scrape off the car in the morning—and best of all, no heavy winter rubber suits. Just a simple 3.2mm wetsuit, the kind we wear year-round in southern Europe.

These mild conditions helped us experience Denmark in a whole new light. I felt lighter, more radical in the water, and we chilled on the beach until late, watching the sunset paint the sky.

And honestly, the BMW iX40 is the icing on the cake. These special experiences feel even more complete when I get to share them with what I call my living room on wheels. The comfort, the silence, and the way you just float down the road—it almost mirrors the feeling I get in the ocean. It adds a whole new layer of ease and presence to the journey, making every trip not just about the destination, but about how it feels to get there.

This place has always been special to me—the lush nature, the kind and friendly people, and that crisp, brown-but-sparkling ocean we’re so lucky to dance with.
